A Rebel’s Road Home

After the Civil War, Delilah and Jameson Hartford return to their plantation in the south in an attempt to help rebuild it and save their people and an unfriendly town after the ravages of war. They are challenged with a myriad of complications, including: rekindled old flames, familiar biases, hostile outside forces, a devastating plague and a deranged murderer all within a distraught and sometimes vicious environment. Each new trial strains their resolve and love for each other. Can they succeed against such overwhelming odds? Freedom and love require sacrifices few individuals will endure.

“A Rebel’s Road Home” will transport you back to the old south as you witness first-hand the difficult transformation, eternal optimism and undying love for a new rebirth and unity. Once again you will love, cheer and cry along with Delilah and Jameson Hartford, one last time.

This novel is the long awaited sequel to my first book, the 5 star rated: “A Northern Rebel.” It is not necessary to have read that novel to appreciate this one as I have filled in any holes in the plot lines with flashbacks or commentary to ensure you have the complete experience.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the book and remember the central theme; “We all have the power to change the world for the better and we should do so with kindness and understanding at every given opportunity.” Thank you for your continued support.

Excerpts from A Rebel’s Road Home

“The evil Frenchman laughed, drew his sword and positioned the blade against Delilah’s body and with a perfectly placed slice, cut off all the buttons on her blouse allowing the shirt to fall open revealing her undergarments. She shrieked and pulled her arms across her chest to hide her figure from the intruder. He laughed again and approached her. She backed up against the wall and realized he had trapped her.”
“Abigail struggled to speak, and finally managed to murmur, “He is going after Delilah. You have to save her. Forget me, save your wife.”

Panic spread across Jameson’s entire body as he realized the dilemma he was facing; does he save his former wife or the woman he loved. He hesitated to ponder the situation, as Abigail urged him to go. He could not let the two of them die and had to try to save everyone. He only hoped he could perform such a miracle.”

“He looked at her for some sign of forgiveness, but there was none, only tears that he wished he could have wiped away. She again asked him to leave. He reluctantly arose from his chair, kissed her head and walked slowly out the door. He glanced back at his beautiful wife and prayed to God that this was not the end. She seemed to disappear in a cloud of cigar smoke as he got on his horse and rode home, alone.”
“That evening, in their room, Jameson told Delilah how nice it was of her to allow Abigail and Annabelle to stay the night. Delilah told him she cares too much; it’s a personality flaw of hers…

Delilah then added, “They don’t have to be that comfortable, let’s make a little noise.”

“Oh you are a little mischief maker, aren’t you?”

She pulled him in close to her and they proceeded to make some unmistakable sounds causing their next door neighbors a little discomfort; just to insure they would willingly leave the following day.”

Song List

In my first book, “A Northern Rebel,” I hid Beatles song titles throughout the text as a way to ensure that my book would not be stolen by unscrupulous agents or publishers.

This time, I self-published, but I once again hid song titles within the context of my book as I was writing it. I thought I would leave them in there and offer you the chance to find them.  They are Beatle titles, solo Beatle titles, Billy Joel titles and Stevie Wonder titles. They are placed haphazardly throughout the novel and total 30 in number. See how many of them you are able to locate as you read or re-read the story. You can even guess the correct artist and test your musical knowledge.

The titles are listed alphabetically below so you can mark them off as you find them; however that is not the order in which they appear in the book. If you give up, the solution is printed on the following page by title, artist and page number. Enjoy!

“We’re gonna have a good time”
–from “Birthday” by The Beatles

An Innocent Man
Another Day
Awaiting On You All
C’etait Toi
Come Together
Give Peace A Chance

Alternate Ending

For all my fans who did not really like the finale to my book, I hereby present for you an alternate ending which I hope will be more to your liking.

Warning! Spoiler Alert!

Please do not read this ending until you have read the original story or you will spoil the entire novel and I don’t want you to do that, I spent a lot of time writing the original.

Start this on page 291 as the 3rd paragraph. Enjoy!
